A Saturday on the Tour du Mont Blanc

PinExt A Saturday on the Tour du Mont Blanc

Today was our 8th day of hiking on the Tour du Mont Blanc. They’ll be many more posts with detailed info and pictures but today I wanted to share the glory of what we saw. Panoramic views greeted us for most of the day – which was a good thing – considering how much up and down we did. A total of 1069 meters up and about 1200 meters down is what we walked in roughly 7 hours, including breaks.

The day started in Col de la Forclaz, Switzerland and finished in Argentiere, France. It was one of those days where you climbed all morning and descended most of the afternoon.

Here are some of the day’s highlights.

  3. Wow, amazing photos. I was on my way to this area once, but the person I was traveling with had her Eurail pass stolen, so we had to divert to another location and never made it here. Glad to see what I missed in your photos. Hope to make it back there someday.

  5. @Ted It’s a fabulous area with the sun shining and the views up high are stupendous but on the Tour du Mont Blanc there is such a tremendous amount of up and down everyday that it makes for a very difficult hike – especially for a sustained period. Still very much worth returning to visit.

@Donna Lot’s of info coming; on many of the days lovely day hikes would be an option – especially out of Chamonix where you have cable car options so you can get up high quickly.

  11. @Randy @Italian Notes Thank you. The trip was a real winner when it came to scenery. It was just the daily up & down that was a killer.

  12. @Caz @Cam @Bino Saturday was definitely a WOW kind of day – but not the only day. Stay tuned for the Italian side which was awesome – plus it had the benefit of huge swaths of wildflowers.

  14. Loved hiking Mt. Blanc though have to say that everyday was challenging – with the amount of up and down. When the sun shone (which was most of the time) it was a glorious hike.
