Travel Photo Thursday: The Eastern Townships

PinExt Travel Photo Thursday: The Eastern Townships

A few years ago I spent a week biking a combination of backroads and La Route Verte (The Green Route) in Quebec’s Eastern Townships. Beginning around now and lasting into mid October you’ll find fantastic leaf colours, grap harvests, apples just waiting to be picked and a whole lot of friendly people – many who speak only French though there you can definitely get by in English.

  3. Wonderful photos. Many years ago I had great aspirations to travel in Europe. Somehow, the reality of that got away from me and now I am too old to finish even a small portion of what I need to do locally in the time I have remaining. It is nice to visit through the experience of someone else.

Hope the unpacking went well and we are pleased to have a bit of summer for ya prior to snowshoe season.

  4. Great photos! Everything is so charming. If you hadn’t told me this was Quebec, I would have thought you were in France.

  5. I love covered bridges! Your photos are stunning. They remind me of the falls I used to spend in the Ottawa/Hull area. Thanks!

  7. Your post has made a compelling case for visiting Quebec’s eastern townships. Are those ski runs in the background of St. Benoit du Lac Abbey? Really nice variety of photos to give us a good sense of the area.

  8. @Cathy That’s Owl’s Head Ski Resort – several more of them in the area. There are amazing places to stay in the Eastern Townships – and they are really an all year destination.

  9. Covered bridges are perennial favourites. The one in the blog is no longer in use but there are some in Quebec that are.

  10. Wonderful shots Leigh. I went on a sales retreat with American Express one year, and fell in love with the area. I even found a bake shop that made the world’s best butter pecan pie, and two of them traveled back to Halifax with me!

  11. I used to go to Knowlton as a kid but hadn’t been back in decades. I’d love even ,ore time to meander – I feel that in a week I just scratched the surface.

  12. Wonderful autumn colours! (Although that giant squash does look a bit …well, squashed). The lake looks gorgeous, too.

  13. Pumpkins were also for sale along the side of the road – and agree about the lake. It is gorgeous and the area around Magog is very user friendly.
