Iceland Anyone?
Iceland has captured my imagination for years and is still very much on my wish list. Eventually I would like to do a biking tour in the summer so I can appreciate the endless days and field after field of lupins.

Lupins
Reuters has just put out their own version of what to do if you have 48 Hours in Iceland. That might not be as crazy as it sounds. There are many flights that now stop in Iceland on the way between North America and Europe, so even a short layover is a reality.
Here are a few interesting Icelandic facts:

The Blue Lagoon
- according to my husband who changed planes there this summer, the airline security is even stricter that the States because Iceland doesn’t think the standards in the US are high enough. Plan on de-planing and then heading through security again on your way through to Europe.
- Iceland is about the size of Kentucky
- 60% of its 300,000 people live in the capital of Reykjavik
- English and Icelandic are spoken
- driving is on the right side like North America
- the average maximum temperature in December is 36F and in July it is 57F.
- their currency has been greatly devalued this year so the country is now somewhat affordable
- from North America connect to Iceland by air via Minneapolis, Boston or New York City
- enjoy hot springs, wildflowers, amazing seafood, friendly people
- go for some extraordinary mountain climbing, hiking, whale watching and their infamous bar & nightlife
You can visit Freewheeling for a description of their two summertime biking options, both of which sound terrific.
