A Stay at The Inn at Bay Fortune on Prince Edward Island

The Inn at Bay Fortune in eastern Prince Edward Island is a fantastic spot to stay for a few days. It’s only about an hours drive from Charlottetown and perhaps 30 minutes from the Greenwich section of Prince Edward Island National Park – a gem worth exploring.

Choose either a standard or deluxe room at the Inn of Bay Fortune. Standard rooms in high season are $150 per night including breakfast whereas the deluxe rooms vary between $200 and $335. We decided on a standard room which we found to be on the small side. On the other hand we were welcomed with a fantastic cheese plate complete with strawberry chutney, homemade crackers and fresh fruit. I absolutely recommend it at $18 per plate.

The Cheese Plate at the Inn at Bay Fortune

Most people visit the Inn because of its reputation for fine dining. Warren Barr, the chef has been with the Inn of Bay Fortune since joining as a sous chef in 2005. Warren did not disappoint – in fact both dinners were memorable. It’s not often one has a memorable meal let alone two nights running. Often we only order a glass of wine rather than a bottle and I found that the wines by the glass were interesting and easily paired with the main courses. (My one criticism is that the wine glasses are too small to allow for proper swirling and sniffing.)

Beet Salad at the Inn at Bay Fortune

On both evenings we split a beet salad which was as delicious as the presentation was beautiful. The presentation of the main courses was equally eye catching.

The Inn offers a lovely common area and expansive grounds including a garden in the back for their own vegetables and herbs. Staff are particularly warm and welcoming. Although the Inn stakes its reputation on fine dining the experience is in no way stuffy – think laid back and casual, just the way a summer holiday should be.

The Inn at Bay Fortune has a sister property which offers lunch  - The Inn at Spry Point. I’m quite sure it’s well worth a visit too.
