Kuhl Clothing Review and Giveaway

Have you heard of the Kühl clothing brand out of Salt Lake City? I hadn’t until they reached out to me a month ago and offered my husband a few pieces of clothing. After perusing their website we settled on a pair of cargo shorts and the Kuhl Team sweater.

Upon receipt of the Kuhl clothing we were both very impressed. The clothing has a feeling of substance and quality. You don’t see loose threads and seams and as you can see below with the shorts, are double stitched. The sweater appeared equally well-made. (Note – 3 years later the clothes are still in great shape!)

Kuhl Kargo shorts

My husband has been wearing the shorts for a week now and loves them. He says they’re super comfortable and don’t rub even on a 15 kilometre walk.

He especially loves all the pockets (maybe with a zippered pocket he won’t lose the car key in the middle of nowhere!) and is quick to point out that each side of the short has effectively three pockets, a zippered one and an interior pocket within the larger snap pocket.

The shorts feel lightweight and will be the go to pair he now takes trekking in the Indian Himalayas. The sizing was bang on. To see them online click here.

The Kuhl Team 1/4 Zip Sweater

I love the look of the Kuhl Team sweater and so did my girlfriend on the recent hike we did to Lake Annette near Lake Louise. The sweater can be dressy if it needs to be but looks just at home in the woods. It’s made of lightweight, boiled merino wool.

I’ve become a huge fan of merino wool as you can wear it repeatedly – workout after workout – and it doesn’t get stinky. Although it’s wool, it can be washed on the delicate cycle though you should never throw it in the dryer unless you want to go to some trouble to make it fit you again (it can be done).

John hasn’t worn the sweater very much yet as we’re in an Alberta heat wave but he did remark that it was comfortable and light-weight. He too loves how it looks and I can see him wearing a piece like this for years. The sweater he received is a large and it’s a touch on the baggy side, which is fine for what he does. Pay attention to measurements if you prefer a slimmer fit.

  1. I have a pair of Kuhl shorts and a Kuhl skort. If I won a gift certificate for Kuhl, I think I’d get the Isla Long sweater/jacket in Burnt Siena. Gorgeous color. I like the fact that their tag is also a sticker.

  2. I’d love the sweater that your husband has. Why? Because my hubby needs a change from sweatshirt hoodies!

  3. MØVA™ AKTIV SKORT Looks like the perfect piece of Kuhl clothing for my wife. She has searched the stores for a skirt that is lightweight with pockets and has never been successful (so I have to carry her ID, lip balm…) when she wears her pocketless Skort!

  4. I would love the Kuhl Spyfire down jacket ! I love the Kuhl brand . Discovered it in Big Sky, Montana.

  5. Lots of great options here but I really like The Getaway t-shirt in Pirate Blue and the Ambush Cargo.

I have a pair of KUHL shorts that are about 5 years old and they still are one of my favourites!

  7. Would love to buy another pair of Ryder pants for my son- he works up north and wears them for work and play. Has been wearing them for 7 years.

  8. I’d get a pair of those pants. It seems whenever I find a style of hiking pants I like, by the time it gets worn out and I need to buy a new pair the manufacturer has discontinued that style.

  9. That’s a tough one, I like almost everything but currently shopping for a vest so the women’s Firefly for sure!

  10. I would love to buy the Cargo shorts for men for my husbands his shorts never seem to last a season.

  11. Hi Leigh, so glad I stumbled on your site!!! I would choose the Skar 1/4 zip L in smoke, it looks soo comfortable!

  12. Enjoy the articles and following your travels. I’ll bite on the Kuhl promotion. I have a few short sleeve shirts of theirs I own already but like you am a huge fan of Merino wool products. I’d love a men’s RACR X FULL ZIP from Kuhl!

  13. I think I would get the SPLASH™ 11 SHORT in black. They look comfy which is always really hard for me to find. I love the number of pockets and how the cotton is supposed to be quick dry. Thank you for introducing me to this clothing line!

Also, thank you so much for blogging about your Coastal Trail Hike in Pukaskwa National Park! My partner and I are going August 13th to August 19th and your blog provided so much insight that I’m even more excited for the challenge.

  14. Hi Leigh,

I’d love to take the Splash Roll-up Pants with me on the Pukaskwa trail this September! Those, or the Kliffside Air Kargo Pants!

Thanks for your great website. I’ve just discovered it and am devouring it now!

    All best,

  15. I only ever want to wear my Kuhl gear. With $100 I’d get another pair of shorts so I am not tempted to wear my non-Kuhl shorts between washes.

  16. I like the Mable LS wicking shirt! It has sun protection, the colors are vibrant and it would work for hiking, travelling and pair up nicely with jeans. It is a well rounded shirt that I would find lots of opportunity to wear.

  17. I would love a pair of Anika Convertible Pants! I think the convertability is super convenient for hiking.
