Work With me
Welcome to HikeBikeTravel, a website I started back in 2009 with no idea of where it would take me. Over the last 13 plus years I’ve been lucky to travel to far flung places and meet a cast of interesting characters. Countless adventures - on foot, by bike, in a boat and on skis or snowshoes have come my way along with some wonderful stays in unique lodges and hotels.
I’ve learned a lot since the early days. My skill set today looks very different than it did in 2009. I’m proud of my photography awards, and happy my writing skills have moved way beyond the early cringe-worthy days. I’m a regular on four social media channels but I do need breaks from those platforms. Cue my summer trips where there are no cell signals.
My blog is all about outdoor and adventure travel - preferably in wild places. But that doesn’t preclude me from writing about my other passions – offbeat destinations, backcountry lodges, and other exciting accommodation options like glamping or camping in unique settings. I also do gear reviews, but you won’t catch me writing about beer or booze.
I am a three-time author, with my third book 200 Nature Hot Spots in Alberta published in June 2022. The first version - 125 Nature Hot Spots in Alberta: The Best Parks, Conservation Areas, and Wild Places, published in April 2018 made the Globe and Mail Bestseller List. Discover Canada: 100 Inspiring Outdoor Adventures published in December 2014 allowed me to visit every province and territory in Canada.
Over the years I’ve worked with lots of national brands like Sporting Life, along with numerous PR companies and tourism destinations. Recent examples include Destination BC, Parks Canada, Nova Scotia Tourism, Tourism New Brunswick, Ontario Parks, Kootenay Rockies Tourism, Jordan Tourism Board, the Adventure Travel Trade Association, Wilderness Ireland, Switzerland Tourism and Visit Czech Republic.
I occasionally write for other publications including Avenue and Reader’s Digest. I’ve spoken extensively on radio and television and I’ve sat on panels for professional development. I am a member of both TMAC (Travel Media Association of Canada) and ATTA (Adventure Travel Trade Association).
The bottom line - you can count on me to work bloody hard and deliver results in this ever-changing media landscape.
